No Place Like Home

In honor of the recently released Disney film, Oz –The Great and Powerful that reportedly debuted in first place in the weekend box office, I have compiled inspiration for the unconventional couple that would prefer to walk down the yellow brick road versus the aisle. Let life imitate art as you plan your Wizard of OZ inspired wedding!

Some people forget that the wedding actually begins the night before at the Rehearsal Dinner. I have supplied you with OZ inspired rehearsal dinner look including all the accessories. The modern day Dorothy would replace the little bows around her pigtail braids with an oversized one on her little white dress (Amsale). Add a touch of the familiar to your ensemble with these blue gingham slingback heels (Miu Miu). Literally wear the color “Yellow Brick Road” on your fingers (Dorothy Lipmann). Since all of our pets aren’t as docile as the fictional Toto, sport their name around your wrist instead (DiamentDesigns). You can also accessorize with the modern and chic version of Tin Man’s heart (River Island). In case a basket doesn’t really complete the look you’re going for, clutch this red poppy field colored purse (Ebay).

Be your own fairy godmother on your wedding day in this romantic, modest, ethereal gown only fit for a good witch — or Bride in this scenario (Ersa Atelier). Only Glinda and perhaps royalty can pull off a true crown so instead adorn your hair with this floral crystal tiara (SiboDesigns). Your wedding attire would not be complete without your Ruby Slippers (Rachel Roy). Embody the emerald city or an entire emerald galaxy with this clear confetti clutch (Edie Parker). In this modern wedding fairytale the emerald city is located on your ears not in the center of the Land of OZ (Pinterest). When executing this theme, go all out from head to toe to nails (Fab Fatale).

Just to remind you that it’s his day also I’ve created a look for the man in your life inspired by James Franco’s character in the new film but adapted for the modern man. Lose the dated cutaway jacket but keep with the 3 piece suit. (Spoiler Alert: Ladies your fiance’s will not turn into Bradley Cooper if you execute this look) (Tom Ford suit. Photo Courtesy of RCFA). It wouldn’t be authentic without a Top Hat to top it off (Surplus Hats). You don’t need green tinted glasses to look upon this watch and visually enter the Emerald City (Rolex). Let him wear his own badge of courage and confidence on his sleeve with these cuff links (Cosmic Firefly). Emerald green velvet shoes with satin bows are a splurge even he’ll want to make (Shoes by Lanvin. Photo Courtesy of The Dandy Project). Not only munchkins can pull off striped knee high socks (AbsoluteTies).

When it comes to decor, your possibilities are endless! So many icons and themes that you can utilize throughout your wedding. Let your guests take a ride on a hot air balloon right at their seats (Photo Courtesy of Logan Cole via Love and Lavender). Instead of table numbers, label your tables with pieces of art that indicate a different person, place or thing from the film (Stephen Thomas). Literally follow the yellow brick road to the altar by lining the aisle with yellow bricks (Photo Courtesy of Amber Engfer Photography). For your tablescape you can go modern and simplistic or rustic and natural, both drawing from elements of the emerald city and the woods traveled through on the way there (Photos courtesy of Weddingomania and Leo Patrone via Once Wed).  If you’re crafty and have the time, try these paper poppies that can can be placed as a centerpiece that runs the entire length of the table (FrenchHomemade).

Last but most certainly not least, the details. Since your guests will spend most of their time at the bar, create signature cocktails and signage that coincide with the whimsical world of OZ (Photo Courtesy of  Brett & Jessica via Green Wedding Shoes). Use these playful pins on card stock as escort cards (EmilyAdamsOnFire). Some things don’t have to be as literal like this stunning abstract poppy field inspired cake (Queen of Hearts Couture Cakes). Somewhere over the rainbow is a rainbow lollipop guild inspired dessert table (Photo Courtesy of Jana Morgan via Amy Atlas). Everyone loves a photo booth especially one where you get to dress up as every character of the Wizard of OZ. Let’s be honest there’s a little Glinda and Wicked Witch in all of us! (Photo Courtesy of Mathews Family Happenings). Send your guests home with a fun bag full of goodies (YellowFlowerDesigns).
